So Making XML sitemap for your WordPress blog is easy now by using Google XML Sitemap plugin.

By making XML sitemap for your WordPress blog, you will help the search engine robots to index your blog faster, and every time you publish, edit a post in your blog, Google XML sitemap plugin will automatically rebuild your xml sitemap and will automatically notify the search engines about your changes so the robots will crawl faster to your blog.

By using Google xml sitemap plugin for Wordpres you can generate two sitemap versions for your WordPress blog; Sitemap.xml and Sitemap.xml.gz

What is the difference between Sitemap.xml and Sitemap.xml.gz?

Download Google XML Sitemaps and install it in your WordPress blog, please read about; how to install plugins in WordPress article  if you don’t know how to install plugins.

Before you activate Google XML Sitemaps plugins, you have to create the XML sitemaps in your root folder (home directory).

To create XML Sitemaps you have two options:

1) You can create one directly from your website control panel.
2) You can create one from your Computer and then upload it to your website home directory (root folder).

1. To create XML sitemap from your website control panel (Cpanel for example) you can click on create file from the Cpanel dashboard and then give the file your XML Sitemap version name that you want (Sitemap.xml or Sitemap.xml.gz) then save your changes and make sure that the XML sitemap is in your website home directory.

2. To create XML sitemap form your computer, right click on the desktop and choose “New” then create new “Notepad” file, open the Notepad file and click on “File” then “Save as”, from the Save as type field choose “All Files” and in the “File Name” field type your XML Sitemap version name (sitemap.xml or sitemap.xml.gz) look at the screenshot bottom.

Make sure that you made these steps like the screenshot above.

After that go back to your WordPress admin control panel, then click on “plugins” from the dashboard and activate Google XML Sitemaps that you’ve installed in your WordPress blog.

When you active Google XML Sitemaps plugins, from your WordPress admin control panel dashboard click on “Settings” then click on “xml-sitmaps” to use Google XML sitemaps, please read about How to use WordPress blog article if you don’t know how to use WordPress.

2) After you activate Google xml sitemaps plugin and you have already posts or if you don’t have any post you should click on “rebuild the sitemap” to build the sitemap for the first time, after that click on “your sitemap” to check the sitemap (look at the screenshot above in number 1).
3) Here you have to choose what versions you’ve created and uploaded to your website home directory, if you created sitemap.xml please check it and if you create sitemap.xml.gz please check on it; if you created both of them you can check them too.
4) Make sure that you have checked on “Rebuild sitemap if you changed the content” to make sure when ever you publish or edit a post so the plugin will automatically rebuild the sitemap.
5) Check them all if you want Google XML Sitemaps plugin to notify the search engines about your changes to make the robots crawl again in your blog to index your posts faster. Viagra o levitra
6) If you have added your Sitemap URL in Robots.txt file you don’t have to check on this option, if you didn’t add your sitemap URL in robots.txt file please make sure that you check this option.

Now you have done, you have XML sitemap on your blog and the great is that when ever you publish or edit any posts the plugin will automatically rebuild the sitemap without touching anything. :D

Pay attention, make sure your Sitemap.xml URL is in your Robots.txt file, please read about how to create and how to use robots.txt article.

    Found this very helpful saved a lot of time thanks, however it would have been nice to shed more light on obtaining the Yahoo ID. Is it really necessary?
